'Rocket Man' Yves Rossy - Straight of Gibraltar

Yves Rossy (aged 50 year), the Swiss Pilot better known as 'rocket man', attempted to fly from Tangier (North Africa) to a beach in southern Spain (Europe). Crossing the straight of Gibraltar.
The plan was to jump out at 6,500 feet, deploying the wings and activating the engine, then fly at up to 180mph, with a flying time of 15 minutes.

Sadly he ran into trouble halfway into his crossing, and ended up landing in the sea, where he was resqued by helicopter.
